Volunteering at the Literacy Council
As part of our vision to serve the community and people with disabilities, Quality Life Associates provides a variety of maintenance level support services. Our goal is to give that "little bit of extra support" that is needed to raise people's confidence in their own ability to successfully live interdependently within the community.
Shelley Melton is pictured here with Burnadette Reda Lynch, Program Director of the NW Arkansas Literacy Council. Shelley expressed the desire to find a community volunteer position to use her people skills and love of teaching. The staff of Quality Life provided ideas and facilitated the initial contact and interview with the literacy council. Ms. Melton's new volunteer position will involve tutoring adults with a need for basic literacy skills. After completing a training workshop later this week, Shelley will be assigned an adult student and will begin tutoring activities. The staff and board of Quality Life are enthusiastic about the opportunity to extend our services in ways that benefit the greater community of NW Arkansas. Way to go Ms. Shelley!

Potluck Speaker

Mike Wheeler (Scull Creek Apartment Manager) invited Sergeant Bill Phelan of the Fayetteville Police Department to be a featured speaker at our February potluck. Phelan addressed the Scull Creek residents and guests about protocols for calling the police. Some of Phelan's comments included, "What are some valid reasons for you to call the police? When should you seek help from the apartment manager? How do you determine what to do if there is a disturbance problem?" Sergeant Phelan accepted questions from the audience as well.
