Representative Prater's Schedule

Representative Sandra Prater, Chair of the Task Force on Traumatic Brain Injury, has requested that area legislators be notified when she is speaking in their district on traumatic brain injury.

Listed below are the dates and locations of her remaining talks on this issue:

May 13 Jonesboro: Health South Rehab Hospital (5-6:30 p.m.)

May 20 Fayetteville: Washington County local health unit meeting room (5-6:30 p.m.)

May 28 Hot Springs: St. Joseph's Hospital - Mercy Room, 300 Werner Street, (5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.)

June 3 Pine Bluff: Jenkins Memorial Center, 2410 Rike Drive, (5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.)

Women with Disabilities

Women with disabilities face some special challenges relating to their health. 26% of America's disabled women live below the poverty line, a circumstance which adds to the challenges. Overall, women with disabilities experience greater rates of hypertension, osteoporosis, depression, stress, smoking, and obesity than women without disabilities.

Brookside programs educate residents about healthcare issues and provide individualized tools and techniques for meeting their health needs. Residents are encouraged to participate in the many activities that are available through Quality Life Associates as well as in the Fayetteville community.

Brookside is different from traditional facilities because our staff recognizes the unique consequences in the intersection of being female and disabled. Women with disabilities participate at lower rates in social activities and other behaviors that increase health and well being. Therefore, Brookside’s therapeutic programs are designed to facilitate participation by the residents in activities that will enhance adjustment to disability and increase self-confidence.
